Ain't nothin but a hoochie mama

I was so excited to have a running partner this week. As the miles go up it is nice to have someone to share the journey with. Although I run with team in training occasionally, it is also nice to run with a friend I have known for quite some time and somewhere a little different. That being said, Sunday was an UBER early wake up time of about 6:15am, just giving me enough time to get clothes on, make my protein shake and get out the door. I had to stop on the way to get some gas and then made my way down to York to Amanda’s house. I have run with her a few other times over the summer when our schedules matched up which is sometimes pretty hard to do so between the two of us. I am oh-so-grateful for the times when they have. She pushes me to be my best and push myself (which is something I don’t always do enough of).  Anyway. I think I can sum up this run by these few points 1.        It is creepy when you don’t see anyone else on the trail for over a mile 2.        The

Sunshine Award

Danielle  nominated me way back at the beginning of September (yep, I'm a bad blogger) for the Sunshine Award and I am so excited to share the answers to the questions she posed in an effort to know more about me. Here are the rules: 1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog.  2. Link to the person who nominated you. 3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.  4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award. And here are the questions.. 1. When is your favorite time of day to work out? If you would have asked me a little over a year ago. I'd have said right after work- hands down! I needed to blow off a lot  some steam every day. Now that I work 11-7:30p I am in love with my morning runs and I don't know how I would ever change my schedule. I get up usually between 8 and 9 and run my heart out, shower then head to work.  It just works! 2. What is something you never thought you’d be able to do, but you’ve accomplished in spite of the obstacles? Well.. r

Inspiration Thursday!

I don’t know about anyone else… but I really needed to create and really READ this inspiration Thursday post. My work schedule (and life schedule as a result) has been all over the place these past 2 ½ weeks and some days it has been really hard to get out of bed and keep on moving. Today was one of them. I was going to get up to run and I just could not physically do it. Working until midnight then being back in at 11 is no easy task when it’s been a while. Anyway.. enough of that and on to some motivational medicine in the form of awesome quotes J via – Isn’t this the truth? We all might have our OFF days… but if you aren’t motivated, others see it and it might drag them down rather than lift them up. via - Easier said than done sometimes.. but a great goal to strive for! via - This is so true. Just keep on trucking and push yourself a little more every day. YOU CAN! via Well if that doesn’t do it.. I don’t know what would. ;) via - Just sayin. I had to thro

One great run

A little earlier today I commented on someones blog and quickly realized its been a week since I updated. How did this happen? Well, I decided I needed to slow down a little in the evenings since things were about to get a little crazy. I am back to the swing of babysitting some kiddos one full weekend each month plus working a weekend once every other (about). Knowing I had two weekends back to back of these activities, I thought it would be best to just relax. I didn't have too much energy to spare so I did this very gladly last week and apparently everything else went by the wayside. I still did workouts just not as much as I would have normally liked. Monday was rest day which I squeezed in 40 minutes of yoga, Tuesday was a hot humid, hill repeat kind of day, Wednesday was HIIT, Thursday I was supposed to get up to run 8 miles but thanks to a cell phone and alarm malfunction, I woke up at 8:30 to hear it thundering and pouring which meant I was going nowhere. I packed my gym

Pseudo running a half marathon

Sunday morning I met up with two team in training mates at 7:30am to run 9 miles for our Hershey half training. We decided to start off our run by looping up through Wormleysburg and up to Lemoyne to Negley Park (which I talked about  here ) You really can't beat these views in the first third of your run for the day. These are pics from another visit to the park, but pretty much the same views. Even if we had to climb quite a few large hills to get there, it is always ALWAYS worth it. I promise.  After we did the loop here and ran back to where are cars were we stopped for a moment to have some water and game plan for the next 5 miles. We really wanted to run along the Harrisburg side of the river. Only one concern- there was a half marathon going on. Now a few years ago I never would have even probably known this let alone be concerned of how this could change my NINE MILE RUN.  This year, however, it is a game changer. In the depths of my own training and knowing

Fall running

Image
Yes! It is finally here. My ultimate favorite time to run is the fall season. The season is far too short if you ask me. But the breathing is easier, the pace faster, and just overall cooler air makes my running so much more enjoyable. After the craziness of the summer sun and heat making us drip gallon after gallon of sweat, fall is a much welcome visitor. The only downside to fall is that the daylight hours are SO much shorter. I hate the long dark evenings. via Who else is excited about fall running?? Maybe you haven't quite gotten the cooler fall temps yet, but believe me they are on the way! It has been getting below 60 here at night which also means AMAZING sleeping. Who's with me! :) I wish everyone luck who is running this weekend (or who already has) in races, long runs, short runs, whatever the case might be. I will be running my long run with a team in training friend tomorrow, and then sticking around to see some friends at the Harrisburg Half finishing up.

Inspiration Thursday

It's that time of week again.. holy moly. So here goes. Fall is right around the corner now that labor day has passed and with that shorter days. For me, this means I MUST get my butt out of bed each morning because an after work outside workout is no longer an option. Working a straddle shift of 11am-7:30pm means this change comes pretty early. Now more than ever I need some extra motivation. via  Laziness, desire to sleep in because I didn't go to bed early enough... eh. Same thing. :) via  This will be especially important to remember when I am nearing the end of my half training.. not too mention DURING my first half. EVER. via  Lol ok ok, not a quote but how pretty is this closet? I couldn't help myself. via  Just keep going... no matter how much you might question WHY? via  Because I just watched this episode last week and DIED. via  This is seriously me right now. Tanner than I think I have ever been in my life too. via  Well this is a lie.. t

In the long run..

Image
Yep, that's a really lame PUN. I was going to name this post another great long run, but the reality is. It really wasn't. I mean it was in the company of some really awesome people, but as for the weather. It was lamer than lame. And by that I mean SO HOT!!!! We met at 7:30am, had some inspiration dedications (major tear jerkers) and then we  begrudgingly  took off running... and sweating and panting. The TNT group prehotsweatymessrun. Half way point water stop (sneaky sneaky someone took this picture) Our run turned out to be about 7.5 miles and we were no less than drenched at the end. I was very thankful to not be part of the group doing 12 miles in prep for a full marathon. The 7.5 was definitely enough on the crazy humid day. Don't get me wrong. The temps really weren't THAT bad, but the air was heavy and it was definitely one of THOSE runs that you, even though running with others, didn't talk just panted and listened to the pants of others. On
