The journey continues

Image
Dear internet, This journey of #yogacamp is incredible. I cannot think of a better way to have started out the year than this. You see, lots of other people around the globe (seriously!!) have joined up to journey together through 30 days of yoga. 25 days now I have traveled to my mat and followed through with a practice. There have been days...   where I almost forgot or was feeling lazy or tired. But I showed up!! That's the great thing about a home practice. It is on your time. The only real difficult thing that might get in your way is you. Sometimes it is really REALLY hard to get to that mat. Even if it just steps away. And that's ok. But it is always worth it. This 25 days of yoga has been pretty amazing. I can't tell you when the last time was that I did something for this many days straight.. well except sleep and eat ;). The other night my husband even said to me "Your 30 days of yoga is almost over..." and I sadly responded.. "yea it is.....

A letter home...

Yesterday marked the second half of this journey through yoga camp from my girl  Adriene . When the announcement first came out that this was going to be a THING for the month of January, I quickly jumped on the website to sign up! Slated to start January 1, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to start the year fresh and new with a daily yoga practice.  The first few days were tough. I have begun to get back into running regularly after a short hiatus following Marine Corps Marathon  (recap here) , and doing yoga on top of that daily seemed time consuming. BUT. I knew I was in it for the long haul and I would show myself I can do it daily. I had a few days were I was so tired, but I showed up anyway. Each day brings a new practice with some new "shape" (as Adriene refers to them) that I have never done before and and contributes to my own personal sense of "find what feels good." Each day I drag my butt to that mat and get it done. Honestly, the...

Find your happy

Image
With the holidays over and winter cold finally setting in, it is sometimes hard to find things that make us feel happy or content with where we are.  For me, I have started out the year with an awesome 30-day Yoga Camp from the amazing  Yoga with Adriene . It is wonderful to do yoga every day. I am really enjoying the process and taking this time for myself each day.  I practice yoga in our spare bedroom upstairs and it is small and cozy.. Except for one thing.  This painting has been with us for the last 8ish year or more. My husband was gifted it from someone when he moved into his apartment right out of college and it has been with us ever since. I love the bright colors in it.. but other than that I have always found it a little odd. I have been saying this for years but we never settled on something to replace it.  Until now. In the fall, we grabbed a bunch of pallets for a volunteer project for Girls on the Run and I, being the h...

Hero Run 5K 2015

Image
It might have been over a month since I ran my 12th and final race of the year, but it does not mean I forgot about it or that it wasn't AMAZING. Life got crazy.. oh wait.. it still is. But with the year end just around the corner, I thought I better get my butt in gear and get this recap completed. This is the third year of the race and third year of my participation. Some coworkers and I discovered this race three years ago and after the first was great, we decided we'd make it a tradition. So here we are at  Swatara Police Department Hero Run 2015 . They actually had the pre-race festivities inside the mall which was awesome. In past years it has always been FREEZING and windy as heck. Of course this year it ended up being very mild and no wind. It was still nice to have shelter in case and I hope that they keep this aspect of the race. we had to get silly with it! TMNT for life. They also had an awesome photo booth again.. so of course we were all over tha...

Marine Corps Marathon Recap

Image
Although it has been (what feels like) forever since game day, I feel like I am still trying to process all of it. This was my second marathon, but my first HUGE marathon. There were around 30,000 people running 26.2 miles with me and it was just such an experience. Unlike my last marathon, we traveled a little over two hours from home and stayed a few days in Washington DC so that I could participate in Marine Corps Marathon . Starting a few days before, I had to check and recheck to make sure I had everything that I needed for the marathon on Sunday. I have run half marathons away from home, but to me this is so much less work than prepping marathon necessities.  Basically, I had to make sure I had my camelbak (ALL PIECES!), NUUN, huma gels for fueling, running clothes and socks. Oh and don't forget the running shoes. We left home on Friday and I couldn't get to DC or to the EXPO fast enough. (Did I mention how excited I was??) We left home around 10am and got par...

Bird in Hand Half Marathon take 2

Image
Last September I ran a really cool half marathon.. and when I say COOL.. I am not talking about the temperature. When I ran it  last year ,  Bird in Hand Half  was hot and humid making it hard to breathe let alone RUN! This year was a totally different story. The night before, the sky was clear and it was beautiful. My friend Emily and I arrived early in the afternoon to get packets for about 10 other running buddies and get settled into our hotel room. Packet pick up completed!  Another friend had recommended a little outing to  Kitchen Kettle Village  which did, but not without a little detour. When you see a sign that says free wine sampling.. you stop. And when you realize there is a brewery upstairs from the wine, you go enjoy that too. Even if you don't drink before long runs.. let alone a race!!  But boy was it good. And much needed. And refreshing..  From there we did make it to Kitchen Kettle Village an...
