So this is how recovery feels..

Image
If you are a runner  (or any athlete really) I don’t have to tell you that once you are on the sidelines with an injury.. when you gradually work back into training.. its an AMAZING feeling. Case in point: Last night I ran my first full mile on the treadmill and when I finished, I felt incredibly blessed. Scratch that- the ENTIRE mile I felt so happy and overjoyed to be running. I honestly have barely run more than a mile each week since I completed my half in October.  Now don’t go feeling all sad for me because I really could have felt better MONTHS ago if I wasn't such a stubborn  idiot who refused to go to the doctors and thought I could heal myself  runner. I really thought I could just take some time out, rest and then get back at it. In reality I had a stress fracture and I am guessing it was a doozy considering I could barely walk the first week or two after my half. Once I realized this, I had one of those “oh.. so that’s why it felt SO bad!!” ...

I like to eat, yo!

If you follow me on social media, you may have seen/heard that I got to try some awesome food compliments of  Home Chef .  I was given no other payment than that week’s food supplies to try in exchange for my review. If you are like me and totally unfamiliar with this company, let me give you a quick rundown of how it works. Each week, the company puts together a menu of 3 (amazing) meals and posts them on the website so you can decide if you want that week’s menu items or not. You can order in 2, 4, or 6 servings @ $9.95 per serving.  You can also email them with any dietary restrictions/allergies and they can accommodate!! You get a really awesome box on your doorstep that looks just like this one.. I couldn't wait to open it!! There's also a nice little letter inside that calls you "chef" and makes you feel REALLY SPECIAL!! Not only do they send you all the ingredients you need (sans some salt and pepper or oil here and there) but they send...

Keep on swimming

Still hanging in there,  guys.  I have been to the doctor's twice now and the grand final word was this: I did in fact have a pretty bad stress fracture (which I believe given the pain I was in post race). Because I am so badass (read: stubborn) I dealt through the pain and took 2 months to go to the doc.  Oops. By the time I went,  the fracture was almost healed but because I was still doing occasional running,  I kept undoing the healing process too. Any way, I was ordered to 4 more weeks of low impact activity (aka no running) and a follow up on valentines day. Hoping I feel the love and am cleared to run.  It has been tough but my hubs also had surgery last Thursday so sadly I have had so little energy to even think about it. The huge bummer about this is I was working on the dailyburn #db15 challenges and really enjoying it.  Hoping to do something on daily burn in a little though.  I need to sweet it out like nobody's business.  I pl...

A while back, I was lucky enough to join  Influenster  and have received some pretty cool products since then. This box is my favorite so far, they really outdid themselves. Please ignore picture quality as most of these are instagram photos since you get credit for a lot of stuff that way. I will start by talking about the product I won't post a picture of me using. Don't get me a wrong, I took a few, but I look quite creepy so its a no go. This product came from  MJ Clay Spa  and I completely loved how it made my skin feel. I really wasn't sure and was a little anxious because my face has been known to geek out on me with new hair and facial products.  In the end it smelled great and was quite relaxing. Might be a good add in to a gift or a stocking stuffer at the holidays.  source Next up is this awesome Triple shine polish in SPARKS FLY by Sally Hansen.. you can see  here . It definitely lasts better with a top coat which I am not...

I am alive!!

Hey lovely followers, I promise I have not forgotten about my dear blog dedicated to my love in fitness and mostly running. You see, I have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving (in crafter fashion I decided I needed to make stuff) and somehow have had little time and/or energy to post didly squat. In addition to this, my running is still seriously on hold until I get to a doctor. I have never recovered from whatever injury I acquired during my half marathon training and then just made worse by not giving myself a full chance to rest. I have done just that the past 3 weeks and although it seems like it feels a lot better, when I try to run or do anything with too much intensity, my left shin/calf hate me. Going to work on getting an appointment after Turkey day and go from there. Here is to hoping I can be back to running by the new year! It is literally KILLING ME to not be able to run. Doing other stuff like riding the wonky bike and the eliptical at my work gym just isn't t...

Energy Bits review & giveaway

Image
Thanks to  Energy Bits  for providing a complimentary sample for the purpose of this review as well as sponsoring a giveaway so that one lucky winner (USA ONLY, sorry!) can see what it's all about. Before I even go into the product itself, I just have to say how blown away I am with this awesome company. They really provide you with lots of literature when they send you a sample to review. I mean you can really feel the love and pride they have in their product. Not only this, but I love that they send you all the ins and outs of the seriously EVERYTHING you might want to know about this product before you put it in your precious body. In fact, I was almost overwhelmed with the amount of (amazing) info provided.  Anyway, moving on to the product itself. I was honestly very  a little worried when opened the tin and the smell kind of reminded me of fish food we fed our fishes as kids. I decided to not let it bother me and just see what happened. It was a...

The time I tried Crossfit

Image
Sometime in the last week or so, our local cross fit gym, CrossFit 717, posted on facebook that they were going to hold a free running clinic followed by a workout. Being a lover of trying new (especially free) things I wanted to jump right on this. Of course, the first obstacle was trying to switch work hours. Once I got that squared away,  I RSVP’ed to the event.  They told me I just needed to come in workout clothes if I intended to participate and bring my running shoes. No problemo. Fast forward to Wednesday. I worked the 8-4:30 shift, drove home in time to get changed and head the big whopping 1 mile to CrossFit 717. I arrived at about 5:23pm and there were already a TON of people in there. The side I entered from was a big garage door that was open and you could see right into the main gym area. I quickly found “a box” to sit on and there was an area of chairs that was mostly full too. Both co-owners also practice Physical Therapy in the area which to me is a grea...
